So there I was, stuck between using Golden Gun or switching to my Titan. I ended up using my Golden Gun Hunter in a stubborn attempt to prove that Hunters can still pump out great damage. We did not defeat the Templar that night.
So how did we get to this point? Most community members have pointed to the Breach And Clear mod in Season of the Splicer, but I feel this slow descent into obsolescence started with the release of Shadowkeep. This expansion did two things:
Hunters are supposed to be Destiny’s take on space cowboys and bounty hunters, and the first Destiny reflected this well. The Dares of Eternity resembles fan favorite 6-player activities like The Menagerie from the Season of Opulence or the Sundial from Season of the Dawn. Xur is the go-to NPC, where players can get bounties that can only be completed in the activity. In addition, exclusive emotes, items, universal ornaments, and shaders can be earned through completing various triumphs in the 30th Anniversary triumph tab. Xur’s treasure Hoard also houses the Starhorse NPC, which sells players Dare bounties with a high XP payout upon completion, but they can only be bought using ‘Strange Coins.’ Strange Coins are earned upon completion of the Dares of Eternity activity and earned by killing special mini-bosses within the activity. Players will also earn treasure keys using the same methods for earning Strange Coins; these keys can be used to open the treasure chests at Xur’s treasure hoard, which will earn players classic Halo -themed weapons for Destiny

The first round of Dares of Eternity has two phases. After the Wheel of Adversity decides what enemy-type players will be fighting, the first phase only consists of killing all of the enemies that spawn in. Champions spawn in this phase and throughout the rest of the activity, so using champion mods is recommended but not entirely necessary if players are over-leveled. The second phase is where things get exciting and introduce seemingly different mechanics for each enemy type, but they all work the same way. Nerfs to dodge cooldowns, Duskfield Grenades, ability cooldowns in general , and the presence of debuff mods every season have made Hunters undesirable for most PvE content. My favorite memories in Destiny involve playing with close friends. Defeating Riven legitimately in Last Wish wouldn’t have been nearly as exciting if I was with a group of randoms. Farming Master Nightfalls is infinitely more fun while joking around with close-knit Guardians. Going Flawless in the Trials of Osiris would have been impossible if it wasn’t for my clan helping me become a better player.
